Reason and Action
What are you after professionally and personally -- your Tiny Career. Going deeper into the roots of what you really want, is what we want to understand. If you remember from last week's newsletter message we talked about the tiny overlap of areas of your life where your Tiny Career (http://tinycareer.com) exists. The starting point for your Tiny Career is understanding that tiny overlap of your values, goals and skills that make you feel authentically you and help to energize you.
Once the tiny overlap has been identified then it's a matter of truly understanding why you want to pursue something -- the heart of the pursuit...this is from deep down...this is tracing your steps back to the start of the "rabbit hole." The "why" is probably the hardest and most important piece of your journey. If you don't understand the deep-rooted reason why you're doing something then what's the point? Where does it lead you? How does it benefit your values, goals and skills? The "why" is the reason for the pursuit and the unwaivering belief/conviction that this is what you want and this is a great alignment of your values, goals and skills. It's the knowledge that that alignment energizes you and benefits you and those affected/impacted by what you do -- your family, those you serve in your pursuits and perhaps others.Establishing your "why" is not easy to do. It can take months or even years to fully identify and establish. However, understanding and figuring out how you'll accomplish your Tiny Career -- the energizing alignment of your values, goals and skills -- is the next step. The "how" is perhaps a bit more concrete vs. the "why." What I mean is the "how" is about action, movement, progress -- making the "why" happen. While it's not always simple in practical application, the theory of the "how" is simple -- what do you need to do to achieve your "why?"The "how" is what actions need to be taken daily, weekly, monthly, etc. to keep on track towards the "why."So before you worry too much about the "how," what's your "why?" What do you want both personally and professionally so you can point your compass to your "North" (previous newsletter reference) so you can execute the "how" with sustained motivation to take the necessary actions -- one foot in front of the other on your journey "North."Hit reply and let me know about your "why" and "how."
