Bridge to your destination
Most spend lots of time working on computers these days. Computers make it easy and quick to capture and move language, graphics, video, and music information around until they’re in place the way we want or need for a project.
All of the above has made so many things in life quicker and easier, and while they help provide satisfaction related to the output you’ve created, the computer did not provide you that sense of satisfaction or accomplishment — you did because you identified a destination and got there.
The computer was merely a tool, a vehicle to get you from thought to realization. In other words, the computer is a bridge over an abyss that allows you to overcome the abyss starting at point A and arriving at point B, on the other side, where you want to be. The bridge is the tool, not the destination.
This is also true of things like AI that you hear so much about now. AI is certainly a more complex tool, but many seem to think that AI is a destination. I think it’s main intention is to be a tool — a bridge.
In general, there are many tools that can help you in life, but if you don’t know where you’re going, or where you want to go, it may not matter which tool you choose to use because you may be viewing the tool as your destination versus a bridge to your destination.
In other words, you may just be fixating on the tool because you really aren’t sure where you want to end up. Unfortunately, when you’re in tool-fixation mode, you may cycle through many tools, and never reach your destination because you’ve never taken enough time to actually determine where you want to go.
Knowing where you want to go takes time. In fact, I believe it takes far more time to identify where you want to end up than it does to find the right tool to build a bridge to get you there.
