Being wrong can be all right

Happy Memorial Day holiday weekend to all of you in the U.S.What do you do when you find yourself in the wrong situation at work?  I suppose a “danger” instinct of fight, flight, or freeze begins to kick in. You can fight through it to make the situation better, and perhaps it works out for the better. Although you won’t know until you go through it and it may or may not be better. At that moment, you’re left with the “danger” assessment choice again – fight, flight or freeze. You can take flight and leave the to embark on a new situation. This puts you in more control to prepare your next move, do more research, and take a new calculated risk to improve your situation. However, the new situation is not completely known until you begin to experience it for yourself, which always leaves you with the possibility of another fight, flight, or freeze decision. You can freeze what you’re doing, don’t exert yourself, but don’t really fight or take flight. Just try to maintain the status quo without much ambition. This would be my least favored option as it doesn’t really provide a path of action that truly changes the situation one way or another. You’re just kind of settling. All that is to say, that in various work situations there is more than one way to approach it. None of those ways are guaranteed to satisfy you or be the “right” decision, but just knowing you have options and the ability to take action to change your situation is valuable. If you lose hope and motivation nothing can improve for you. Being wrong can be all right. Pain in life is inevitable, but how you choose to navigate it can be the difference between positively getting through it and being negatively consumed by it.
