Process How You Feel to Grow

Mindset--------------------
I hope you’re having a good Memorial Day weekend, and have an opportunity to reflect on why we celebrate this day.
Lately, I’ve been feeling restless. I think I’m still processing my family’s recent move to a new place, which took several months to realize and forced me to be narrow in my focus; a go-go-go frame of mind. Now that we’re in the house, I’m slowing down a bit and expanding focus toward organizing our home and establishing new workflows and routines.
In my brain, I just want to flick the light switch from one mode to the other and be done with it, but clearly, at least for me, it doesn’t work that way. How about you? Feel free to hit reply and share a time when you’ve had to shift gears and it’s taken longer than you expected.
To help intentionally slow myself down in order to better process, I've been reading more – not on a screen, but in physical books. I find this helps to force my go-go-go to slow-slow-slow…at least a little bit. When I take the action to read to occupy my mind in a different way I feel encouraged to mentally slow down enough to actually comprehend what I’m reading. It helps me regain my sense of clarity toward what else I need to address in my daily life. This act coupled with journaling after reading tends to provide me optimum results.
Speaking of what I’ve been reading…
In Phil Stutz’s book, Lessons for Living - What Only Adversity Can Teach You (affiliate), he talks about our own insecurities — what Carl Jung referred to as our shadow — essentially our human condition. Stutz suggests embracing the shadow to help transform the insecurity it typically imposes on us into a constructive tool of self-growth.
Here’s a quote from the book:
“The meaning of life, with all its pain, becomes comprehensible when you realize that you go out into the world to develop a relationship with yourself.”
-Phil Stutz
I love that quote. Its sentiment is the essence of what I discovered for myself years ago: invest in yourself to better understand how you can navigate this world, and how others in the world are more interconnected than you might think.
Self-awareness to me, is often just finding constructive ways to process how you feel to grow.

--------------------------------------------------Music--------------------On May 30, 2024, my band, Gemini's Rival will release our next single, Lizzy's Ride (a kickin' straight ahead garage rock song), on all major streaming platforms. Here's the cover art for the song:FYI - Songwriters Round Town will be taking the summer off. These sonic storytelling group sessions typically take place on the third Saturday of every month. May 18 was the last one that occurred, and we won't resume again until September 2024. The good news is that it gives us time to write new material for September!----------
