Happy Mother’s Day, Change to Grow
5/12/24
Based on feedback, and trying to show up for you here as my whole authentic self, I'm experimenting with the format of the Investors newsletter to showcase the three main categories of information I typically focus on: Mindset, Marketing, and Music. Feel free to reply and share your thoughts. I'll still lead these newsletters with Mindset to help you invest in yourself and your self-awareness so you can invest in others.
-----------------------------Mindset--------------------
First off, happy Mother’s Day to all the moms out there, including my lovely wife, my own mom and my mother-in-law – Thank You for all you do!
My family finally made our move to our new home. It went smoothly, as far as moves go. Just need to finish unpacking and organizing where things should go.
I was skeptical about moving. I knew that for all sorts of logistical reasons, and my kids’ education, it was worth the risk to make the move, but fear of the unknown can be a stronger beast than a known fear.
“Am I making the right decision?”
“What if it doesn’t work out?”
“I know we can make it work, but is it worth the financial acrobatics to do so?”
“Wouldn’t it just be easier to continue on as is without making such a drastic change?”
These are common self-doubts that continue to run through my head.
However, one thing I have learned to trust in making such decisions is to identify the numerous ways that saying, “yes,” to a decision can potentially improve my (and my family’s) life and/or situation. If the amount of realistic positive improvements outweighs the downside of dealing with the change, should it not work out, then it’s probably worth seriously considering and/or actioning.
Then, if it’s worth considering, in that “consideration" stage I’m relying on faith and signs from the universe to help indicate one way or another that what I’m actually “considering” is pointing me in the right direction.
This is sort of tricky to validate, but think of it as a gut check to sit with the knowledge of the risk you’re planning to take, running scenarios in your head constantly and reflecting on how you feel.
Feelings of what you think you can deal with/handle, and paying attention to how you feel as you revisit the vision and intention of making the change you’re considering. If you still feel like the reward likely outweighs the risk, then it’s probably worth actioning.
Once the decision has been made to action the change, then it’s full commitment to making the change. As you commit and put the effort and time into the change, whether or not the change is successful will start to reveal itself to you over time.
The thing is, your original vision for the change will evolve. You might have to iterate on things within your actioning of that change, and that’s okay. Keep in mind those positive improvements you identified as your north star – how you get there, if you have to adjust your approach, doesn’t matter as much.
You’re constantly evaluating along the way if this is working. With a growth mindset, it will work, or you’ll identify that it’s not working, adjust and make a change in a different way, and make that work using a similar process.
There are just no guarantees in life. Knowing yourself well enough to understand your risk tolerance is healthy. However, at the end of the day change leads to growth, and you have to decide how you want to approach your growth.
