Hitting life's curveballs
Happy Easter, to those who celebrate. It’s baseball season now. I love baseball. I had the privilege of getting to play up to the college level.
Like many, as a batter, I struggled hitting the curveball when it was pitched.
The secret to hitting the curveball is to swing the bat later than you normally would if a fastball was pitched.
As a batter, to hit the curveball, you need to be patient, sit back and wait slightly longer than you think you need to before you pull the trigger and swing the bat. This is so you’re swinging at the point when the ball breaks and is dropping away from you.
When you put it all together, it works. When you make contact with that curveball it’s a sweet feeling of success and accomplishment.
Life throws us many curveballs on a regular basis. Often we swing the proverbial bat normally, as if a fastball was pitched, and as a result we miss — strike.
In general, at home or at work, life is a long game filled with hundreds of pitches and many at-bats. It’s important to be disciplined to patiently sit back on life’s curveballs so you can make good contact with them and successfully knock them out of the park.
