find smart, efficient ways to get there
Well spring is supposed to be here, but it’s snowing where I live.
Hopefully, my area will experience spring soon enough, and then summer.Considering summer plans often also requires financial considerations for things like summer camps for the kids, summer vacations, and other general activities that might have a cost.
Lately, I’ve been examining the financial and economic aspects of various areas of my professional life – in my day job lately I’m making business cases for executives to showcase in dollars and cents just how economically beneficial the things I’m involved in are to the organization.
Or, at Eleven, I just wrote a blog post about how musicians can financially help their careers by increasing their income and/or reducing their expenses (ideally you want to do both). You can read that post here, if you’re interested. Its concepts apply to several other areas of life, and let’s face it, unfortunately things aren’t getting any cheaper.
So back to your upcoming summer expenses. How can you prepare by either increasing your income or reducing your expenses, or both?
The easiest way is to examine what you spend on average per month in expenses and what amount of money you make on average per month in income then analyze the data to inform future actions.
In other words, are there expenses you could do without, like the recurring expense of a TV streaming service that you don’t use as much as others? Cut those you don’t use regularly. Dropping one streaming platform is likely an annual savings of about $120. That might not seem like much until you realize that $120 can pay for park and rec. baseball for your kid this summer.
Or on the flip side, if you have a side hustle or two like I do, you might take on an extra side gig or two to afford a family summer vacation.
Beyond the financial implications of what I’m sharing here, the point is, when there is a will, there’s a way. I believe with money or other aspects of life, if you have a vision or a goal of where you want to be in the future it is absolutely possible, but you need to find smart, efficient ways to get there.
Need help finding smart, efficient ways to accomplish something? Maybe I can help. Hit reply and let me know what you’re working on.
