I’m just in the thick of celebrating Christmas in Wisconsin with my family. I hope you’re safe and healthy with loved ones.

I got an early Christmas present from my wife yesterday. A book I’ve been wanting to get since it came out earlier this year – Rick Rubin’s, The Creative Act: A Way of Being. I’m already knee-deep into it. 

The book begins claiming that everyone is creative even if you don’t formally pursue the arts, which I agree with. There is creativity in all aspects of life. Rubin does go on to suggest that some do “tune in” their creative antennae more than others, but ultimately we’re all creative beings.

The following is a quote from the book, which I love: 

“No matter what tools you use to create,The true instrument is you.And through you,the universe that surrounds usall comes into focus.”-Rick Rubin

Creativity truly is a state of being to me. It’s how I view the world and find my own place in it. I imagine you feel somewhat similarly about certain aspects of your life too.

That quote resonates with me because I view it as another way to suggest that a lot of us are all trying to find ways to invest in ourselves and others – the whole point of this newsletter.

I was in a difficult season of life earlier this year where I felt my creative life force was being suffocated and potentially snuffed out. Maybe you were going through difficulties of your own this year, or are currently in such a season. Know you’re not alone. Know that with your own unique creativity you will find a way through it. The journey may not always provide the results you want, but you will find a way to move on.

I learned to accept help from people who actually care, which was not easy. It was humbling to say the least, but magically liberating at the same time. That’s the power of a higher force of kindness working its creativity through us, in my opinion.

Have faith, be grateful, be generous with your love, and you will continue to invest in a better version of yourself and others. You are a gift!
