Tapped Out

I’ll be very transparent with you, at the present moment I feel tapped out.I sat here to craft a newsletter for you, but no ideas were surfacing. Today, I’m having trouble keeping myself and you motivated to continue improving.

It’s not that things are going poorly. Quite the opposite, but many activities and obligations are quickly piling up on one another, which becomes overwhelming. Can you relate?

This week was one of those pile-up weeks. A week where your day-to-day life is mostly about staying on schedule to be here or there at an appropriate time. A week where you have to ensure you’re delivering the support, work, and parental guidance necessary to each scheduled situation efficiently and effectively.

It can leave you exhausted by the end of the week.

So maybe that’s the topic to write about...how do you re-energize yourself to get back on top of your game each week?

For me, doing something creative and artistic usually refuels my brain. The downside of that is that I don’t always have an hour or two to work on a creative project. I have to strategically become a master of taking advantage of 15 minute increments of creativity.  It’s not quite the same as having swaths of time to immerse yourself, but I’ve been applying the 15 minute process to my guitar making, and it has proven useful.

For example, I’ll need to add some wood stain to a guitar project I’m working on. Doing so and cleaning up will only take about 15 minutes. When I find myself with 15 minutes to spare I go out into the garage, add the wood stain, clean up, and move back into the other obligations of my day.

I know the wood stain needs time to dry before I can do anything else with it anyway, so I feel good about the small progress I’ve made on a creative project that clears my head from the daily computer screen litany of electronic messages I’m used to dealing with, and I’m slightly re-energized to jump back into the fray.

What do you do to re-energize?  Hit reply and share.
