Happenstance Networking

Are you prepared to network in any social situation you find yourself in?

Often when we’re out and about in our daily lives we find ourselves in various social situations, whether we intend to or not.

Those situations could be as small as sharing niceties in line at the grocery store with a stranger standing in front of you, or at your child’s friend’s birthday party, connecting with other parents.

The point is, as natural conversation develops in these situations often questions get asked about what you do for a living or what your interests are, and having a succinct way to describe that to them can be helpful to making a great networking connection.

What’s fun is when such positive connections happen unexpectedly.

That's what happened to me over this last weekend when I took my son to his friend’s birthday party.

In talking to the parents and other adult guests, I discovered a fellow musician and a stand-up comic. As we got talking further not only did we uncovered our mutual interest in performing with our creative outlets, but we all had a vested interest in the

community.

So we swapped performance stories and I invited both gentlemen to come perform at the

event I’m hosting on Saturday February 18th to share their talents. One of them even began texting others to promote the event right there -- how generous of him to help promote a perfect stranger!  I certainly hope both of them are able to make Saturday, and you too, for that matter!

The moral of the story is, you never know who you’re going to meet, and how you might be able to help others or even be helped by others, so be prepared to listen and share.

I truly believe that everything in life boils down to communication and relationships. Communication is a vehicle that leads to shared understanding, which allows you to launch relationships from a platform of trust, and it can happen even in brief encounters if you’re open to it.
