Journey to the next peak

Well, I’m staring down the last week of my current full-time job.

I personally feel a bit duped and used for how the position was sold to me in the recruitment process and then shocked and appalled at The Stepford Wives-like robotic, inhumane, surface-level culture to which I was asked to assimilate.

However, it was ultimately my choice to take the role, so I take that responsibility. I’ve also taken responsibility to do something about it by choosing my family first vs. taking the money and allowing all of my waking hours and mental health to be stolen from me and my loved ones.

I can confirm that I did in fact find some good people at this job…you know, humans — they were a minority of folks that recognized that this operation is psychologically unsafe, but were doing their best to persevere, in part, because they felt (feel) trapped in long hours that leave little time or energy to find other employment (I have a feeling that’s by design — yuk).

To any employers out there, there’s a simple success framework that is like magic due to its simplicity and the fact that it works every time for any business. Here it is:

  • Take good care of your employees, (not just on a surface/transactional level, but as humans with deep intrinsic value) then…

  • Your employees will take good care of your customers, then…

  • Profits will take care of themselves

I’m anxious and worried because I don’t yet know what’s next, but I do know this:

You cannot reach and appreciate the peaks in life without having slogged through the low valleys.  I’ve been in a rather low valley for months, but I can see the peak off in the distance and I'm on my way there.

If you are going through any sort of a similar transition and feel you could benefit from talking through it with someone...anyone, don’t hesitate to reply, or connect with me on Linkedin. I'm happy to listen, relate, and remind you that your employment does not define your identity or value as a person.

Some have already asked me how they can best be supportive, which I thank you. You’re very kind. Sending good vibes and prayers are some of the most helpful things.  Leads on marketing-related work I may be able to help with or even potential freelance work is good, as well as additional paid music performance bookings.

I do my best to try to bring good value and insight from the content I’m able to provide in this newsletter. That said, if you’re interested in other ways you can help —  like your favorite PBS donation drive — you can support some of the things I do that may interest you by making a purchase. Please don’t feel obligated. Sincerely, it is only a suggestion if you feel so inclined and are in a position to do so.
