It is wise to pay attention to the seasons

I can feel it already. Can you?The pressure. The increase in preparations and prioritization for another school year for our kids, and my wife’s work in during the school year as an education counselor, and even myself with big annual work events that take place in the Fall. It’s interesting how the seasons of life are cyclical like that…but individually, life as a whole is linear – we’re born and move ever closer to our end. It’s all forward motion, there’s no turning back. That somewhat contradictory idea was the basis of an album I put out called, Linear Cycle of the Seasons, anyway, I digress…The good thing about various seasons in life, especially when they’re stressful or outright bad, is that they’re temporary. Your forward motion can’t be stopped, but the various seasons within your life will…and then at some point start again. Seasons hold lots of information for you. Even when you encounter a particularly bad season of life. Life keeps moving forward. The seasons cycle like a wheel rolling along that linear timeline, and if you’re paying attention you can learn from previous seasons. That way, when you begin to recognize the signs of another potentially bad season coming your way, you can call upon what you’ve learned in a previous, similar seasons to endure the temporary onslaught. The result is often that what you thought was going to be a bad season turned out to be manageable. Don’t underestimate what you’re capable of enduring – you’re stronger than you give yourself credit for.Seasons work the other way as well. When you can see a good season on the horizon, your previous experience with that sort of season can help prepare you to maximize it, and I would encourage you to do so because like all seasons, it will be temporary.I’ve eluded to this before, but if you can learn to ride the peaks and valleys of life you can maintain a rich existence. One particular way I help myself learn from my previous seasons is by journaling. If that practice is at all of interest to you, I encourage you to check out The GrowLoop Journal.Have a wonderful rest of your week!
