The Best Kind of Marketing
Hi ,there is something magical about meeting new people in and around your passions. When you're doing something that energizes you (i.e. involves something that you're passionate about) the energy is electric and very positive. That's what happened to me recently. As you know, I'm a musician, and I recently played a show at The Froth House (in Madison, WI -- shout out to Ryan, for coming to the show). It was an intimate coffeehouse show. The kind of show that energizes me -- performing is one of several things I'm passionate about that energizes me.What I love about playing shows at venues like The Froth House is that I'm already energized by the fact that I'm doing something I enjoy and am passionate about (performing music), so I can't help but be positive about the people I meet and engage with who come out to the show. And that last part, is really what it's all about. I get to engage before and after the show with folks who chose to spend their evening listening to me. I love the conversations I end up having with folks from the audience, simply getting to know the people who are there. The additional attention I can give them by engaging in conversations helps them to be more interested because they're getting to know me more as a person, rather than just a musician. As a result they often listen more intently.Likewise, as I get to know folks in the audience prior to the show, the same sort of thing happens to me -- the folks in the audience are more than just some random audience members, and I'm motivated to put on the best show that I can for them.My point is, as you pursue your creative endeavors, or your entrepreneurial business be sure to engage your audience beyond just trying to sell them something. Get to know those you serve. Be authentic and genuinely curious to learn about your audience. It will motivate you to give your best and they'll be more likely to engage back and even buy something....quite frankly, such engagement ends up being the most effective marketing of all.Got a similar story?
