A Third Way

Do you ever have a feeling like you’re trapped in your head churning through ideas and solutions to problems you need to solve (or think you need to solve) for your home life, for work, and for your personal endeavors?

I mean, you’re conscious of what’s going on outside of your head and even fully participating in it, but inside your brain you’re operating on a different plane -- it’s not a superior plane from others by any means...it’s just somewhere...else.

And if you allow yourself to dwell there too long you start to think the ‘outside’ world is just this other place where the majority of people operate.

Yeah, me neither...I was...was just asking for a friend...yeah, for a friend...

Seriously though, sometimes I think the prolonged isolation of the pandemic, and the fact that I typically work from home anyway, can start to skew one’s reality -- in both good and bad ways.

For one thing, I’m far more productive working on my own at home. I get to operate how I know I work best. That wasn’t always the case for me in an office setting. In an office there are literal and perceived rules / etiquette that don’t necessarily exist in my own little home office, which is liberating, thus making me more comfortable and further allowing me to bring my most authentic self to work, to my home life, and just each day. (Pro tip: your authentic self is the place from which you will navigate your life best.)

As a result, I’m doing more artistic projects and really exercising my creative, and business, solutions mindset. This suits me.

On the flip side though, lots of isolation and lack of physical in-person connection leaves one yearning for something that’s missing. Something that online video streams / meetings / chats just can’t fully recreate.

All of the above can put one in a different headspace. Maybe it’s clarity, maybe it’s complete fogginess, or some combination. However, now that much of the world is emerging from the lockdown of the pandemic -- and there’s a surge of in-person gatherings -- I find myself in this plane, this headspace that is perhaps adjusting to a third way (“before covid,” “through the pandemic,” and now:  a new normal influenced by our current way of life shaped by our experiences over the last couple of years).

I suppose this sort of transformation is always happening to us as individuals in life, but the pandemic is something that the whole world endured as a shared experience -- a rare external phenomenon that forced this transformation to begin.

Any who...my “friend” wants to know where your head is these days?  Hit reply and let me know.
