Opportunity Thinking

What's your big ultimate vision for your life and business?

I don't mean, what do you want to achieve this year or the next with your business to enjoy your life.  I mean, what's your big vision?  What are the main reasons behind your pursuits? You may think you know, and perhaps you do fully know, but most people I know, including myself, limit their vision because of their limiting beliefs about what they can do or achieve. What do you fear?I think to some extent people self-sabotage or limit their mindset as to what is possible because of fear.  Fear of failure, fear of success, fear of not having support for your vision -- being told it's silly -- or simply fear from the overwhelm when you think about what it would take to leap from where you are today to the vision you truly see.The truth is, there are a lot of steps to get from the here and now to the ultimate ideal, but you'll certainly never get there if you simply don't take any action toward your vision.Opportunity ThinkingI want to introduce you to something that I call opportunity thinking.  I highly doubt that I coined this phrase, but it's been the best way I can describe the idea of anything and everything being possible. When I was a kid, I truly believed that I could do or be anything I wanted to be.  Not everyone around agreed, nor did I always feel like I had adequate emotional support for my endeavors.  However, I have always maintained a hopeful ambition that has kept me motivated to continually take action toward the things I want to achieve in my life.As I've gotten older and the day to day realities of life have settled in (work, paying bills, etc.), it has been harder to tap into that idea of infinite possibility, but now that I'm a dad and I get to re-look at the world through my son's new life discoveries I've been  able to reach back into that feeling more easily again.  I think in part, because I want my son to know that he'll always have my support for whatever endeavors he comes up with. What I mean by opportunity thinking is always looking for the opportunity in each of life's events, big or small.  In others words, if something doesn't go the way you wanted ask yourself, "what's the opportunity here?"  Sometimes the opportunity is simply to learn more about yourself, or to learn from a mistake to create something positive.Whatever it is, if you can find the opportunity in everything you do or encounter you will always be moving in the right direction.  With the thought that something positive will always come from those opportunities you can maintain a positive outlook and continue to tap into the motivation you'll need to reach your vision.Opportunity Thinking in actionAs I began more actively blogging on NickVenturella.com I thought how fun it would be to interview other business/marketing bloggers/authors who I admire.  Some might think, "oh, you'll never get in touch with those people, they're famous."  My opportunity thinking kicked in and I thought, "what's the harm in trying."  The result, is that Chris Brogan, one of my favorite authors/bloggers agreed to do a short interview for my blog.  (if you haven't read it go here).  Thanks again, Chris! Here's another example...from a different vantage point.  I was just in Austin, TX for business, and my flight home was delayed then because of the delay I missed my connection in Dallas and I had to stay overnight in Dallas and delay my ability to get home on my original schedule.  I was frustrated and tired because it was late, but I stopped myself to think about the opportunity in the situation and I realized that I was simply thinking about myself and my own schedule vs. the million other things going on around me and how the delayed flight may have impacted the airport workers' ability to get home to their families.  My point is that I had the opportunity to reflect about being more patient, and out of that came this email newsletter, which is a positive thing.Always think in terms of possibilityCall it gratitude thinking or opportunity thinking, but always trying to find the good in a situation actually changes your mindset over time into a possibility thinker, and if you apply action to that thinking anything truly is possible. It's never without work, but you will experience the end result in a much different, and more desirable, way.How this is helping me reach my vision for my life and my business is that it keeps me focused, motivated and able to adapt to the litany of twists and turns that life throws at me.My vision is to ultimately be financially self-sustaining and autonomous.  I would like to be able to do my work from anywhere at any time, enjoy what I do, financially provide adequately for my family and fully own how I do it.  To do this I'm building my endeavors to generate active and residual income streams, and while it's still on a small scale it's growing everyday in the right direction because of opportunity thinking. What's your vision?  Hit reply and let me know. Thanks,Nick Venturellawww.nickventurella.comwww.nickvmusic.netwww.growloop.com
