Celebrate the Milestones

I've mentioned previously that June is a busy month. My youngest boy turned 2 years old at the start of the month, my wife and I have our 13th wedding anniversary today and my oldest boy turns 8 tomorrow – all major milestones we're happy to celebrate. How about you?  Do you and your family have any major milestones you're celebrating? Hit reply and share. I want to not only talk about milestones today's, but more importantly taking the time to be in the moment and celebrate them, and why this is important. Whether it's a family milestone or a milestone you accomplished as a step toward your larger goal, acknowledge the importance of the moment – make yourself and/or the other person(s) involved feel significant regarding the met milestone or accomplishment. It’s very easy to breeze over many of the milestones we achieve in our lives, or be self-deprecating to the point that we start to believe that our achievements (no matter how large or small) are insignificant. Don’t do that! You don’t have to have a huge party with lots of fanfair, but acknowledge the milestone and those involved in reaching it. Doing so does a few of things:

  1. It makes the other person involved feel good about the work they put in and/or time spent getting to this point. (If you’re recognizing a milestone for yourself, make yourself feel good about the effort you’ve put forth.)

  2. It also makes you feel good to make someone else feel good – always be filling your Karma-bucket. It’s a wise move.

  3. By recognizing others’ milestones you’re more likely to have people helping you celebrate your own accomplishments as they may want to return the favor.

  4. Finally, with positive reinforcement surrounding met milestones, it helps provide additional motivation to continue the journey forward. We all need reasons to keep moving and it really doesn’t take much to provide that for others.

Your assignment this week:  Share in celebrating someone else’s milestone. Be genuine and make that person feel significant about their achievement, and see how it makes them feel…see how it makes you feel.Have a great week!
