Your Business Model

Grab your breakfast cereal, and let’s jump in...

Last week I talked about how I'm fusing my various interests and pursuits into a more unified online presence [NickVenturella.com].

I wanted to share some of my planning with you as it may be a simple way for you to plan your own business.

The following structure is actually derived from Chris Brogan's book, The Freaks Shall Inherit the Earth (affiliate link), which you should pick up if you haven't already.  I modified the business model structure Chris provided in the book to fit my own needs.

Laying this out really help me see what I needed to do in my business to make my business model work, which is ultimately designed to generate income.

Read through what I've written below for my own business to provide you an example.  Then try answering the following questions for your own business.

What do I sell?

  • Marketing know-how (coaching, and coaching content-based products, writing and logo/website design)

  • recorded music

  • live appearances (music or otherwise)

How do I make money?

  • sale of coaching products and affiliate products

  • sale of logo/website design and writing services

  • sale of recorded music

  • live paid performances/appearances

Who is the buyer?

  • other coaches

  • consultants

  • creatives selling the value of their art/craft

  • arts patrons

Overarching brand message?

Everyone wants to accomplish something personally or professionally that requires the ability to market themselves somehow.  I want to help foster that ability in others toward the end goal of monetization.

Here's my aim:  develop a community that collectively grows its communication skills to build more mutually beneficial relationships that increase desired outcomes for all involved. In other words, give before you get and pay that concept forward -- we all win.

To that end, my own unique contribution is my many years as an entrepreneurial arts professional with extensive sales and marketing experience. Oh, and a profoundly deep personal interest and passion for the arts, business and marketing.

How do I produce what I sell?

  • write...

  • draw/design...

  • record...

  • perform live...

...my creative expressions and marketing knowledge in consumable ways -- visually and aurally, as tangible products and/or via live experiences.

How do I distribute what I sell?

  • web

  • phone

  • mail

  • in-person

...and in that order.

What does yours look like.  Hit reply and share.

Take care,

Nick Venturella
