You against you so you can be you

New Subscriber Shout out to my musician friend, Rene Moffatt. He’s a great singer/songwriter who you should check out…just saying.

Quick note:  It was brought to my attention that some of you tried to reply to me related to last week’s email and you received a response that the email didn’t make it through to me. That was my fault, I recently updated the email address associated with this newsletter and the reply was broken. It should be fixed now. Sorry about that. Feel free and reply to this email to give it a whirl and say, “hi.”

------------------------------

I’m in the midst of reading Phil Stutz and Barry Michels’ book, “The Tools - 5 tools to help you find courage, creativity, and willpower – and inspire you to live life in forward motion.”

Let me take a breath; it’s a long title…

This is by far one of the best, most practical books on thriving in life despite our own – and universal – human condition. If you want to invest in yourself and others (to live the tag line of this newsletter) then you’ll want this book on your shelf.

Why I’m so excited about the content of this book is that it is distilling down and very succinctly articulating so much of what I’ve personally discovered, through trial and error, for myself through my own life experiences to improve on being a better, more self-aware and self-confident human, which – it turns out – ends up helping others to do the same.

I’ve previously talked about the idea of life being you against you, which really just means the biggest force of resistance to your personal success in life – however you define success – is you overcoming your own insecurities.

Speaking of insecurities, this quote from the book really stood out to me, and I found it useful to reflect on...perhaps you will too.

“...when you crave the approval of others, you give them power over you. They become authority figures who define your value.”

The idea being that to become your whole, individual, authentic, beautiful self, you need to embrace your insecurities vs. silo them separate from other parts of yourself so you become fully able to express who YOU are to the world…and the funny thing is, when you do that it starts to attract more positive energy and people to you. More things in your life begin to feel like they’re lining up in your favor. It's you against you so you can be you!
