New Perspective
Lately, I’ve been helping a lot of people develop a
for their business, product or service.
Something I’ve been learning from crafting these value propositions is that the real value is in having an outside perspective identify something that we know is on the tip of our tongues but can’t seem to articulate appropriately.
While I’m providing that service for those who need a short, snappy way to easily communicate the value of their endeavor the need for outside perspective is needed by me too.
That’s one of the reasons I love my wife, she usually offers me a perspective that isn’t always obvious to me. My 5 year old son does this a lot too. It helps keep me grounded and continually learning.
In fact, if you simply just pay attention to the people and relationships around you, you can find useful perspective all over the place.
The hard part is simply being open to another way of thinking or approaching a challenge. If you’re not humble enough to think that someone else might provide helpful insight or a better approach than your own you run the risk of never truly achieving your greatest potential.
This is because you end up limiting yourself to your own perspectives. Trust me, I’ve limited myself more than I care to share, often out of shear stubbornness.
Even if you gain another perspective from someone else that you choose not to use, being open enough to consider the alternative perspective will at least help you to think through things from another angle. That can sometimes confirm your original approach. However, without another perspective to compare yours to you wouldn’t be as sure about the choice you made.
