Adversity can create opportunity

Everyone is shifting how they operate, how they think about economic survival. For those in the Arts, and Hospitality industries (among others) having no in-person events is a killer emotionally and financially. However, with adversity comes opportunity. For musicians, they can livestream performances online from home. Even if you’re not a musician, you can get creative about what to share over a livestream to support your endeavor…perhaps a workshop related to your craft or business then you can capitalize on that…

  • Use PayPal or Venmo to allow supporters to tip you virtually with a credit card

  • Use a recorded replay of your livestream as a valuable lead-generator ”freebie” piece of content. For example, maybe you conduct a livestream workshop and moving forward you use the recorded replay video as a free valuable gift for new sign ups on your email list.

  • You can even conduct smaller audience-specific performances or workshops/tutorials for those in specific geographic areas. In Facebook Live you can specify who can see your livestream by city if you want – think virtual tours for musicians with unique song sets or experiences promoted to specific audiences in particular cities where you have fans.

Here are some quick tips about livestreaming, especially if you’re just getting started with it…The easiest, free platform for livestreaming is Facebook. There are plenty of tutorials online about how to start a livestream using Facebook, if you don’t already know. Just Google it. In fact, you can Google all of the following things I’ll touch on to find how-to videos for each aspect of livestreaming. From there a smartphone works great as your video camera because a newer smartphone is probably going to have a better camera than your laptop. For audio, you can use the ear buds that come with your phone as they typically have a microphone in them to capture you talking. (If performing music you may want to line in directly, check out these quick tutorials: Simple, Quality Livestream Audio-Video Set UpPart 1 and Part 2).Make some ‘how-to’ videosI know many are out of work right now, and if you have a skill you can teach you can begin to create how-to videos and sell them packaged together as a course (you can use Udemy or Teachable to deliver such courses) or as a subscription using a platform like Patreon. This is not an overnight way to make money, but it can keep you stay focused on something and help you learn new skills while you build a side-hustle that could financially help you in the near-term and beyond. If you have skills that you can freelance digitally, check out providing those services on Fiverr. It’s a freelance marketplace that is free and easy to get started with and use. I’ve used it to earn some extra cash in the past averaging anywhere from $100 to $500 per month depending on your what you offer.Network to build new relationships and find new employmentIf you’re currently out of work, LinkedIn is your friend. Expand your professional network to increase your opportunities to find new work soon. Feel free to reply to me with your LinkedIn profile link, I’ll take a look and, if I know anyone in your industry, do my best to introduce you (can’t make promises here, but trying to help).I appreciate you!  Stay safe, hopeful, and motivated!Sincerely,Nick VenturellaCreative ProfessionalNickVenturella.comFacebookYouTubePatreon
