Your presence of mind in the present time

If you are anything like me, you are quite busy on a daily basis -- even hour to hour. In those moments that you are busy, often you are working toward some future state -- a deadline, achieving a degree or maybe planning a vacation. Or, you might even be reflecting on the past to learn from mistakes or improve on last night's work event you hosted. Unfortunately, this busyness of looking backwards and planning ahead often distracts us from right now - the present moment. For me, performing music is one way that I am able to personally pull myself into the current moment. I have to pay attention to what I'm doing to ensure that the performance goes well.  Being present performing music is an emotional and spiritual experience for me personally. In that moment, that expression is something I get to share with an audience, and for some in the audience the music will resonate and deeply connect to their own life and emotional state -- that's magical, fleeting and only available in its purest form in that moment (I don't want to miss it). I find when I'm able to enjoy the present moment that I'm in, I'm more positive and extremely grateful for the experience. That makes me feel alive. That makes me feel like I am a living. One way to have that feeling more often is to be sure and take time to consciously bring yourself into the current moment that you are in on a regular basis.  Some people meditate to achieve this, but if that's not your thing there's another way... Simply take at least 20 minutes a day to consciously think about your present moment. If you can find something to genuinely be grateful for in that moment you will automatically change your mindset to a more positive state. Even if it's just for that 20 minutes, when you're busy again trying to look at the past to learn from your mistakes you can remember that positive feeling when you were grateful for that 20 minutes. Then when you're making plans for tomorrow you can ensure that you schedule another 20 minutes to be present and grateful.

I'll be in the present moment tonight performing my music at the Hop Haus in Verona, WI beginning at 7pm. I would love to see you there!

Also, next weekend, Saturday May 19th, I'll be performing from 11am until 1pm at Mama D's Coffeehouse in Wales, WI. If you're in the Wales/Hartland/Oconomowoc/Pewaukee/Waukesha areas, come on out to the show.
