Mental Liberation

A few years back I went through a program that certified me as a professional coach.

The training was designed to help individuals who were interested in becoming life coaches, business coaches, employment coaches, etc.

I was utilizing the training specifically to build my skills as a marketing coach to aid the work I do in my day job as well as the work I provide for my marketing-related freelance clients.

Now, coaching, in the traditional sense of the word, is this interesting practice because you're not doing the work for someone, or directly giving them the answer to their problems.

You're probing with open-ended questions that are guiding the client down a path to realizing they have enough information and/or power to identify the answer for themselves.

Often the answer was always in them, they just needed some help thinking through it critically and the coach's questioning, and positive encouragement, provided the necessary vehicle for the client to find their own clarity about the situation to arrive at an answer that is right for them.

In this way, coaching is very powerful for the coaching client. The coach/client exchange helps the client more objectively view their problem, think through it more clearly and stay on point toward a solution because the coach is holding them accountable to do so, but all from a positive state to move toward improvement and success.

That training taught me many things, but one is that whatever we concentrate on expands.

This means, that whatever you put your focus on -- something negative like, not being able to solve a problem or feeling emotionally stuck in a rut -- that feeling will expand and grow and be all you can concentrate on (even if subconsciously), and the negative things you think are going to happen in your life become self fulfilling prophesies because you're focused on negative energy.

Too many of us, myself absolutely included, self-sabotage in this way. However, if you change your mindset to a positive one and think optimistically about the opportunities that  are possible in any given situation, over time, good things will start to happen to you and for you...

But to sustain this positive mental state is a daily grind. It's hard and the results are not always in the form you expect, but keep at it, I promise you positive thinking works.

Have a great week!
