Make Hay While the Sun Shines

Well, here in Wisconsin it seems that spring may finally be here.  We had some fun (notice my sarcasm) winter weather here in April (aka lots o snow), but now there are no traces of winter. Having the sun out makes me very hopeful in multiple ways. Being hopeful gives me enough confidence to stay motivated to do the things I need to do. The company I work for went public yesterday, which is exciting, but also means everyone has been beyond busy in their roles ramping up for this market event. Such busyness is all consuming, which makes you feel like there's not much time for anything else in your life. That's not to say that it will be easy street now that we're a company on the New York Stock Exchange, but it may mean some of that anxious busyness will wane for a bit. I'm feeling a similar anxious busyness as I approach my upcoming May 10th music performance at the Hop Haus in Verona. (Feel free to share with your friends.)

This is really the first show I've done this year with an intentional focus toward kicking off a renewed, serious effort to continue exploring and pushing the limits of my journey as a musician. (As a parent with young kids sometimes these endeavors require a great deal of patience until the little ones move past some of those early life stages, which has largely been my situation.) While I am very much looking forward to the performance and others that will follow, there's an anxious busyness because of all the little things I need to get done in prep for the performance, and currently, I'm a one-man operation.  That means I designed, printed and sent promo posters and digital download promo cards to the venue ahead of the show, am busy practicing my songs, and I've even created a DIY system to manufacture my merchandise for sale at the show. These are hand-made products which offer more meaning to the fans that purchase them. If I think too long about the work that still needs to get done – for my full-time job or my music endeavors – I will get overwhelmed and may potentially sabotage my forward momentum. For me, it's very important to celebrate the small victories along the way and keep a very specific list of the things that need to get done otherwise I won't keep it all straight. Sometimes it feels tireless and tedious and you question whether all the effort is worth it. Only you can determine whether or not the effort is worth it. However, I will say that if you have a little voice that says, “what if…what if you do this and put the effort in…I wonder what the result looks like…I wonder where that experience will take me,” and if you’re curious about the answers to the questions that little voice is posing, then that’s a good indication that the effort is worth it. While the sun is shining, keep that confidence up and create positive momentum by taking action toward your goals.Sincerely,Nick Venturella NickVenturella.comLearn about the Provision JournalNickVmusic.netGrowLoop.comAutismHR.com
