The benefits of vacation

It’s April.

That means it’s National Autism Awareness Month, if you didn’t already know that. One easy way you can help the cause is by spreading the word about

.

AutismHR helps autistic adults utilize their skills to earn a meaningful income from work they're skilled at and enjoy by way of the Gig Economy -- AutismHR provides tutorials to help individuals get started.

Beyond that, my family and I just got back from a short vacation (spring break from school for the kids).

It was nice to really unplug and spend a lot of quality time with my family. It was refreshing. Definitely the change of pace I needed to help refuel. I think the rest of my family feels similarly.

Here are a few things I learned about getting away that was helpful, and may help you too:

  • I need to change my scenery (probably more often than I do)

  • I need to unplug more often

  • I need to find inspiration (this is easier to do when you unplug and change your scenery at the same time).

  • I need to be present in the moment (again, this ends up happening when you allow yourself to do the above).

  • I need to laugh with people I care about and who care about me. (On our vacation, I got to laugh with my kids and my wife about our family’s silly inside jokes, and it was very uplifting, I recommend trying it.)

Now that I’m home and ready to get back into the work week I can’t help but feel a little closer to my wife and kids than I did before our vacation -- it brought us together.

It just made me realize that even though I put a ton of effort into working hard, I need to spend just as much effort into playing hard with my family, and more often.

Have a great week!
