Get Up Quickly

Well, I survived sinus surgery over a week ago. I’m on the mend and should be 100% soon. No longer having a deviated septum is already changing my life with better breathing. I appreciate all your support, especially that of my wife and family.

I’m excited to bounce back because I have a lot going on. It feels counter intuitive for me, but being forced to slow down due to the surgery did provide some good, needed perspective.

One of the things I thought about was forward progress on my goals for this year. I was worried the surgery would slow me down from making the strides I want to make this year, but in reality maintaining your health will help you move farther, faster. Now, I think the surgery will actually allow me to move more easily through other aspects of my day-to-day, which will ultimately help me accomplish things more easily, and likely more quickly.Do you ever feel like that?  Where you anticipate a setback that if simply carried out according to plan will actually accelerate your progress forward better than if you had fought against the perceived setback? Feel free to hit reply and tell me about it. Getting it off of your chest can simply help your forward progress.

Many other similar productivity thoughts were racing through my congested head while I was resting my body, such as the idea of failing fast.

I have never really cared for that phrase: "Fail fast." The word "fail" simply has a negative connotation. When, in fact, that phrase is supposed to elicit something positive - improving on a skill or attempt that didn’t previously go as you had hoped.

If you run into setbacks the best thing to do is assess the gap between what you thought would work, what didn’t work, and why so you can try again with an improved attempt or pivot to move in another direction based on your learnings from that experience. Those setbacks are not failures at all, but rather opportunities to rapidly succeed by bouncing back and moving forward with what you’ve learned.Don't fail fast, just get up quickly.
