Focus on Success

It’s been a long week. Lots going on – just running around personally with family, work, projects, etc., not to mention various world events that we’re all keeping an eye on.

How was your week?  Hit reply and let me know what went well. (psst…that’s a psychological trick to get you to identify something you’re grateful for – there are mental benefits in doing so).

I’ve been consciously reducing the things on my plate lately. Things expanded to proportions that I was beginning to realize would get out of hand and overwhelming quickly if I didn’t take action.

This is something I’m getting better and better at each year. I still want to say YES to every project that interests me, but I know I can’t and still reach my own goals on the timeline I’ve set for myself.

So I’m learning that NO is not bad, it’s just a direct way of saying, “Not now. I have to wait for another, more fitting opportunity that aligns better with my own goals and timeline.”

The better I get at saying NO the more I’m investing in my current and future self because I’m staying focused on what I’ve set out to accomplish.

This focus accelerates my own success by helping me avoid distractions or unrelated detours in my time and attention.

What do you need to focus on for your own success?  Hit reply and share, I’m always happy to provide a positive perspective and encouragement.

Here are a few things I’m currently focused on:

  • I’m building and marketing my unique, upcycled guitars in my Etsy shop, I’ve always got two or three in the works these days.

  • I’ll soon be releasing a new 6 song EP album of music called, “Midwest Heartache.” (Most of it’s done. It should be out later this year. Stay tuned. This EP is a collection of singer/songwriter tunes – a group of slow burn, emotive, folk/pop/Americana songs about life, loss, love, and home. These songs are two-fold: a new release for fans of my music, and new tunes specifically being pitched for sync licensing to hopefully find a home in ads/TV/films).

  • I’ve been re-recording some original classics from my duo group that I was in years ago with my friend / bandmate / cowriter, Dan Lezama. We’re having fun relearning our old songs and re-recording them even though we’re working remotely hundreds of miles a part. Our duo was/is called Gemini’s Rival (the website is a placeholder site for now, but you can see some classic pics of us from back in the day - more to come on this front).

  • Finally, I’m having surgery on my sinuses soon. (I’m a bit nervous of how it might affect my singing, but I have to imagine it can only improve it. :)  After that, I have some live music performances booked and will continue to book more for those of you in my local Madison, WI area and neighboring regions.
