Think Space

This week, for some reason, has felt like an unusually long week to me. How about you?

I’m very much in a think-time, pondering, strategy-building mindset this week. This is related to my work and other endeavors I’m involved in.

I’m in a state where I know the direction I’m trying to move things (especially related to work and business), but I need to refine the strategy to successfully execute a plan based on that strategy.

I feel 80% of the way there, but that last 20% is proving difficult to push through.

Do you ever deal with this kind of feeling? Hit reply and let me know how you overcome it.

The best thing I know to do in these situations is slow down. Don’t be in a rush to create a solution or half-baked strategic plan. Create space to think, journal, read, but all with the problem I’m trying to solve on my mind.

Often, this is what it looks like for me:

  • I write about what I’m trying to achieve or the plan I’m trying to formulate.

  • Then, I read articles, books (related or unrelated to what I had journaled about and been thinking about).

  • Then I sit and think, and stare out the window -- I tried to let my mind wander.

  • Then I walk on the treadmill or move around.

  • Then I think about the problem again.

  • Then I do some daily tasks that need doing -- again, all the while, I have this problem simmering in my subconscious.

  • Inevitably, I start to get bits of ideas that are pieces of gold that will help solve my problem. I do what I can to capture them.

  • Then, I start to piece together the puzzle from the fragmented series of ideas that have slowly emerged from my subconscious to my conscious mind.

This process almost always works for me, but the time involved related to the solution emerging typically varies. That variable of time is often what’s most frustrating. It’s like trying to remember someone's name that you know you know and it’s on the tip of your tongue, but you can’t seem to place it. Then, out of the blue the next day their name hits you like an obvious thought and you blurt it out randomly, and your spouse looks at you confused.

Be patient, give yourself space and time to think, and the correct path forward will emerge.----------
