These last several weeks have been a whirlwind. My kids, like many of yours, have not had school for several days in the last few weeks due to extreme cold temperatures and/or snow. (I live in the winter vortex right now.)Plus, my wife and I just took the kids out of school for a week to go on our first official (just the four of us, traveling by plane) family vacation. This was planned 6 months ago, the winter vortex was not. Overall, our trip was good, but extremely exhausting. Then we get back and our kids were off of school again for snow. (Come on, really?)All that is to say, I’m way off of my routine – my whole family is. At this point it’s a bit frustrating as we’re all realizing that we need more structure than we’ve had lately.So, if you’re at all like me, and your kids have been off of school for what seems like way too long, then you may be feeling like you’re not sure which way is up, or where to start to get back on track toward the work and goals you’ve set for yourself this year.Here’s my advice:Give yourself some grace.Be kind to yourself and others. You feel the frustration of being stalled by external circumstances. Don’t get too anxious, or make yourself feel guilty for not getting as much done as you think you should have lately. Life happens, and when it does you have to prioritize things -- do what needs to be done even if that means pausing the other things you’ve been working on.The good news is that you’re not alone. Life happens to us all.Once the fog begins to clear a bit, re-align yourself with the goals and actions necessary to get back on track. Don’t judge yourself. Don’t worry about what others might think. Just focus on what you need to do to get back on track, and take action.Plus, it’s Valentines Day. Love is in the air, so why not show yourself some love – be kind to you and those you care about.I’m rooting for your success!
