This has been a tough week. After Thanksgiving, my whole family came down with a cold. Covid tests were had, it’s not Covid, thank goodness, but it certainly made getting through the week more difficult.

So what’s the lesson in this?

It’s temporary. 

In fact, most things in life are temporary. The good news is, even the most difficult or worst seasons of our lives -- though in the midst of it, it doesn’t seem like it will ever end -- are temporary.

At the point that you recognize a difficult time in your life you have two choices. 

  1. Feel sorry for yourself and I guarantee the hard season lasts longer than it needs to, or

  2. Focus on the fact that this difficult time is temporary, give yourself hope, start putting one foot in front of the other and take small steps to move through and out of this hard season.

I know it seems like every email I’m hammering on these growth mindset vs. fixed mindset ideas, but I do so because a) I personally need the reminder, and b) it can’t hurt you or others to have such a reminder. 

The point is…

Your mindset is what you have the most control over, which can help dictate how you handle various situations in life. Over a lifetime, it can become clear who had a growth mindset and who didn’t. Their success and fulfillment in life far exceeds the opposition.

Now that we’re into the December holiday season, it’s fitting to promote a theme of perpetual hope anyway.
