Benefits of Documenting Your Life
Last time we talked I shared that I am working on a journaling system to promote and track goal achievement as well as mood and happiness improvement over time as you use it.When you hear about the idea to take small steps to improve your health and happiness, if you're anything like me, your mind immediately thinks of things like changing your diet or adding exercise to your daily routine. Most people I know do not immediately gravitate towards the thought of creating a daily journaling practice to improve their health and happiness. However, research I've been finding (here’s one such example) as well as my own years of experience journaling, I'm convinced that it is one of the most non-invasive, positive things you can do for your health and happiness with little to no roadblocks to getting started. My own journaling really began as a young musician/songwriter and artist in high school and later in college/art school. My journal was a place to capture poem snippets, song ideas, art project ideas and emotional thoughts that seemed to help me feel better once I got them out and on paper. The journal itself and its contents were/are essentially for my eyes only, but some years ago I started getting very interested in the idea of journaling regularly and keeping those volumes for posterity as they get filled up with song ideas, art project ideas, entrepreneurial business ideas, life's peaks as well as the valleys that I might be working through. Now those volumes are a legacy for my kids and their kids after I’m long gone. Perhaps my writings help them understand and know who I was a little bit better and/or gain insight into my thinking patterns, as crazy as they may be. Perhaps, it helps them understand something about themselves (heredity is a weird phenomenon). So, with that in mind, journaling is something immediately personal with real health benefits, but it can also be a gift for others in the future. My wife reminds me of this legacy idea. She was very close with her Mamaw (grandmother), who has passed in recent years. I know my wife would give anything to have journals or diaries written in her Mamaw’s handwriting conveying her thoughts and feelings. It would serve as a way to reflect on and honor the memory of this special person's life. Being able to read through writings like that from a relative or someone you care about deeply has a way of making their presence felt here and now even though they are physically gone. With all of the above in mind is why I’m developing what I’m calling the Provision journal. It’s a proactive journaling system for achieving a better vision & version of one’s self. The name comes from the combination of the words, “proactive†and “vision,†and includes the idea of provisions; providing nourishment or sustenance, in this case for your mind, body and soul.I’m hopeful I’ll have the journal available for ordering online in the next week or so, if you have interest in it. I will certainly keep you posted. As I’ve mentioned before, if you or someone you know could benefit from this journaling idea feel free to share this message with them, or better yet, order a journal for them as a gift once it’s available.Thank you for your time and attention. Have a great rest of your week.Sincerely,Nick Venturella NickVenturella.comNickVmusic.net also MadVinyl.com (cover band)GrowLoop.comAutismHR.com
