Stay Focused on Your Vision

Last week we talked about continued learning and taking action to apply knowledge in real life. When you take action the actual "doing" is often different than what you imagined it would be when you were originally planning everything out. This is the difference between theory  and practical application.  How do you deal with the difference? How do you keep on track toward your vision even if the route to get there seems different than what you previously expected? The best thing I've discovered is to be less attached to "how" you reach your vision and more focused on the vision itself.  Trust me, this is typically easier said than done, but I know you can do it!That means a lot of hustling and course-correcting along the way -- adapting to minor missteps or unforeseen events that, if you're not focused, could derail you from reaching your vision.Such derailments are motivation killers, which is why you have to stay focused on the end goal. More often than not, people don't reach their goals because of fear (they shoot themselves in the foot before they even get started because they're afraid of failing), or their motivation wanes when the "how" to reach their goals presents something unexpected or seemingly insurmountable. Here are a couple of things you can do to help you stay motivated:First, find at least one other person, whom you trust, to be an accountability partner.  Really, they're an encouragement booster and motivational partner.  Someone who you can explain your vision to, and who will check in with you periodically to ensure you're taking action and staying focused on your vision. This partner's main job is to remind you of your vision to help you stay on track to figure out another "how" when your current "how" presents challenges.Second, break down your big main goal into smaller, more attainable, little goals that you can more easily accomplish.  Document those little goals and track your progress as you accomplish them.  (if interested, here's a tool that can help - affiliate link)At the end of each week review the little goals you've accomplished.  Reviewing these small victories will help keep you motivated toward your larger goal.  Over time you will have strung together several small goals that will eventually add up to your large goal.Hit reply and tell me how you plan to reach your vision.---------------SALEJust a reminder about my Halloween Sale.  I have several of my marketing-related ebooks and full-length music albums available at the spooky low price of $6.66.This is the last week of the sale (sale ends on Oct. 31,2014 at midnight), and the sale will now be open to the general public (not just those on my email list).
