Life's Peaks and Valleys
The last couple of weeks have been a whirlwind of events, many of which have been tragic.I had been working for the past several months on a project for my employer’s annual customer conference. The work was intense – really just a lot to be coordinated and completed in a relatively short amount of time given the size of the week-long conference. The morning I left for the conference in Las Vegas was the Monday after the October 1st shooting at Mandalay Bay.As you can imagine, there was a somber tone throughout the city of Las Vegas at that time. However, our conference persevered as the local Vegas economy depends on tourism and corporate events taking place there, it was thought better to stand strong, support the community and move forward with the conference than cancelling. The idea was to showcase that we and the Vegas community won’t be deterred by malicious bullies.Separately, upon arriving home, I discovered that a family friend’s son passed away unexpectedly at age 24.Then, because tragedy comes in threes, the day after our friend’s son’s funeral, we found out another close family friend’s mother passed, which was a longer drawn out battle with illness, but still has a deep saddening impact. While I didn’t intend to write a sad newsletter, it’s important to have valleys in life to fully appreciate the peaks. There is optimism to be had in the wake of tragedy. For example, all those who have passed are now at peace. Nothing can harm them anymore. Their memory and their spirit is always present, whether we feel like we consciously know that or not. It’s a reminder to embrace an attitude of gratitude for the good in our lives, for the people in our lives and their health and well-being.It’s also a realization that you can positively affect people by simply caring. It’s easy to get caught up in our day-to-day lives, in our work, in business, in our creative pursuits, and forget that we’re all human…all battling the same human condition…all in personal worlds of our own trying to make something meaningful of our lives…all seeking an opportunity to love, be heard and be loved.Show someone you care today. Not only does it feel good, but it will positively come back to you in some way, shape or form, I guarantee it!Sincerely,Nick Venturella NickVenturella.comNickVmusic.net also MadVinyl.com (cover band)GrowLoop.comAutismHR.com
