Think like an entrepreneur in every situation

I've been thinking a lot about my career, as I tend to do at the end of a year and within the first month of a new year. Perhaps you do this too?
It's on my mind this time of year because my business strategy planning for the year ahead is wrapping up. Then the true execution begins.
These days I personally have taken on the role of both an entrepreneur and employee-preneur.
While I'm steadily chipping away each evening on freelance marketing work (my own business), I also have a full-time marketing role. The dual dynamic actually plays out well keeping my marketing skills sharp for both small businesses and large corporations.
That's why I bear the title of both entrepreneur andemployee-preneur.
However, what's common across each of these endeavors is my mindset. I truly feel, and am operating as if, I am my own business owner no matter if I'm truly working for myself or someone else (hence the title employee-preneur). I'm in control of my career path.
Like and entrepreneur I'm constantly assessing my 'business' -- me.
Is my career moving me where I want to go with the things I want to learn and skills I want to build?
My employer is renting my expertise at a price, though like everything in life I'm getting something out of that relationship too (experience and knowledge) that helps make me more marketable to increase my 'company's' valuation -- my earning potential.
The point of all of this is to help you think about your own situation and whether or not you are a business owner or an employee you can always be 'CEO' of you.
When you heed that mindset you start hold yourself accountable for outcomes and rely on yourself more then the forces outside of you.For example, even as an employee in a company you can create goals for yourself about how you will excel in your current role and how that can lead to a promotion. You can even partner with your supervisor on a plan to gain their support towards your goal of being promoted.
That is akin to being your own boss; setting goals to achieve for your company and getting your employees to support what you're doing and partner with you towards reaching those goals.
The bottom line is, if you believe in your mindset and in your heart of hearts that you have the ability to influence your own career path (as an entrepreneur, employee-preneur or both), then you can.
If you don't believe that, you'll be constantly waiting on the world to hand you what you need, you won't hold yourself accountable, excuses will ensue and disappointment is inevitable. For the sake of your success, this is what I'd like for you to avoid. How do you plan to operate as 'CEO' of you? Hit reply and let me know.Make it a great week!
