New Year, New Decade, Seize the Opportunity
Welcome to 2020! Happy New Year and new decade. I hope it’s off to a good start.I can say 2020 is starting off far better than 2019 ended for me and my family. I will spare you the long story, but we had several misadventures over the holiday break that we’re glad are now over. (think mishaps like in the Christmas Vacation movie)However, a new year brings new beginnings. Having somewhat of a clean slate is useful for all of us – well, depending on what we do with that opportunity. So, that’s the question: It’s a new year, a new slate, what do you plan to do with this opportunity? Hit reply and let me know. (psst…I’ve purposely waited until after January 15th to send this email to you so you could get that new year’s resolution you created – and by now have likely broken – out of your system and you can concentrate on something you’re really ready to work towards this year.)Here’s the thing, you don’t need a new year to begin a path towards positive outcomes you want in your life. People sometimes get hung up on the actual turning of the page of a new calendar as a specific moment that positions you to finally plan a change. It is, however, helpful to reflect on where you’ve been in the last year in your life, and where you’d like to go in the next one. From there, you can figure out what makes sense to concentrate on and work towards. But cut yourself some slack if you decide mid-year to change your plans again. You’re constantly growing and changing and your interests may be evolving, so plans may have to change to support your new path. That’s okay. Just remember: taking consistent action over time creates real results. My one piece of advice in this new year and new decade is to commit to building a better relationship with yourself. It’s easy to begin doing this through a regular journaling habit. It doesn’t take much, a pen, some paper, and about 15 minutes a day. If you want an actual journal designed for this sort of thing, here's the GrowLoop Journal. However, you can write on a legal pad if you like, I don't care. I just suggest journaling because it's something that is absolutely in your control, doesn't take any preparation or loads of equipment, and the benefits to your mental well-being, energy level, and productivity are nothing short of amazing.I challenge you to journal each day for the next month, or at least every week day for a month, and see for yourself if you feel better and/or are more mentally clear. I would not be surprised if you complete the challenge and are able to deal more easily with life situations that happen unexpectedly (hint: write about them after the fact to release them from your brain), and I'll bet you'll experience an increase in your own productivity.Whatever you do, take note of yourself in some way, shape, or form to purposefully take action towards a better you this year.Sincerely,Nick VenturellaCreative ProfessionalNickVenturella.comNickVmusic.netGrowLoop.comTurnUpToEleven.com
