What is your Primary Aim

Hi , I'm currently reading The E-Myth Revisted by Michael Gerber (Amazon affiliate). I definitely recommend the book as it helps you explore how to systemize and build repeatable processes for every aspect of your business. One of the things Gerber talks about having before you have customers, a marketing plan or a business plan in general is having a Primary Aim. What Gerber is referring to is having a life plan. He asks you (the reader) to think about what you want your life to look like and how you want to use your business to get there? Gerber uses the example, be it a bit morbid, of a funeral eulogy to give perspective to how you want to be remembered for the life you live once your time on this earth has expired. The impact in the way Gerber describes it is very resonant. Gerber's real message is that your business is a tool to help fulfill your life plan. Perhaps your business is how you afford to execute your life plan. Similarly, your marketing is a tool to help you afford your business, or rather to help you stay in business and grow it. So I encourage you to think first about your life plan - what is yours? If you don't have one, immediately think about it and write it down, even if it's short and simple. Second, think about whether or not your current marketing plan is supporting your business the way you want? We're just about to end the first quarter of 2013, which is a good time to reflect on any plans that were developed for this year at the end of 2012. Are things progressing the way you had hoped? If so, great, how can you further capitalize on those efforts that are working? If not, think about how to take corrective action to shift things in your favor. Let me know what's working for you or not working for you, and feel free to share this email with others who you think it may resonate with.
