Mindset
Hi friends,
I’ve gotten a few messages checking in on me lately because the newsletter went quiet. Thanks so much for reaching out—I'm totally fine, but I did need to hit pause for a bit to focus on starting a new full-time job and making sure my head was in the right space.
The short version is: I got laid off from my my previous employer earlier this year, along with 1700 others. That was the main paycheck for my family, so yeah, I was definitely stressing. Luckily, I landed at a smaller tech company. It’s a slightly different gig, and the pay’s lower, but frankly, finding a genuinely positive and supportive team has been a huge win. That’s worth more than the money, every time.
We still have to pay the bills, though. I needed to get totally immersed in this new role and master the learning curve quickly. That meant my side hustle time had to take a backseat while I focused on work and family. Transitions are messy, stressful, and uncertain, but you just have to use your best judgment, take action, and push through to the good stuff on the other side.
Right now, it’s all about kicking butt at the new job and supporting my family. After that, I’m figuring out how to run my creative business differently. I’m still going to bring you great stuff on Mindset, Marketing, and Music/Creative!
Like you, I don’t have unlimited free time. Given how expensive everything is, the time I spend here needs to be productive and, in all transparently, profitable, so I can keep showing up. I won't ever swamp you with sales, but I do need to prioritize things that actually compensate me for my efforts.
The new focus is all about helping balancing the 9-to-5 with those passion projects that recharge and energize us without totally burning us out. I'll be sharing frameworks, resources, product recommendations (yes, with affiliate links—no extra cost to you, but a big help to me!), and inspiration from my own projects. I'm excited to pull back the curtain on how I'm making this new balancing act work so you can steal the best ideas for yourself!
Feel free to check out some of the new updates to my website to get a deeper feel for this slightly new angle on my brand. Nickventurella.com.

Music/Creative
Trying to fit your passion project, hobby or side hustle in while keeping your day-job your primary income source without burning out? Check out this blog post.
New upcycled guitar projects and other music-related gifts coming to the nickVguitars Etsy shop:
My kids and I have always enjoyed the How to Train Your Dragon (HTTYD) movies, which is why when I was pondering ideas for a design to add to a red, semi-hallow telecaster-style guitar, this movie came to mind.
You can watch my brief YouTube video where I unveil the HTTYD-inspired, Strike Class guitar.

New music and concept album:
Music and songwriting is one form of art, among others I’m involved in, that helps me make sense of the world and my place in it.
Plus, it’s taught me so many transferable skills–personally and professionally.
That said, in the time between being laid off and starting my current job, I quickly produced a 7-song EP called “Our Own Devices.”
There’s a whole concept and theme to the album that is certainly relevant to our modern human condition. Read about the album, listen for free, and read the song lyrics on Bandcamp.
If you have interest in financially supporting this album/message feel free to purchase the music at nickventurella.bandcamp.com.
The album is currently available on streaming platforms.
